2014 FIFA World Cup Tournament update

The World Cup 2014 FIFA is the 20th World Cup tournament for the mens football world championship, and it is currently taking place in Brazil.

It started on the 12 June, with a group stages and is scheduled to end on the 13th of July on the finals day. This is the second time Brazil hosts the tournament competition, the first started in 1950. Brazil was nominated unopposed as host nation in 2007 after FIFA, declared that the tournament would be staged in South America for the first time in 1978 for Argentina, and the 5th time in total.

The national teams of 31 countries advanced through to qualification competitions that began in June 2011 to play a part with the host nation Brazil in the final tournament that will take place. A total of 64 matches are being played in 12 cities across Brazil in either new or improved stadiums. For the first time at a Fifa World Cup finals, match officials (referees) are using goal-line technology, as well as disappearing foam for free kicks.

All world champion teams since the first Fifa World Cup in 1930 – Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany (who won three times as Germany), Italy, Spain and Uruguay – qualified for this competition tournament. Spain were the title holders for the 2010 World cup, having defeated the Netherlands 1–0 to winning their first World Cup tournament, but they were eliminated at the group stage after losing in the first two matches against Chile and the Netherlands.

Venues

12 venues (seven new and five renovated) in twelve cities have been selected for the World cup tournament. The venues cover all the main regions of Brazil and create more evenly distributed hosting than the 1950 finals in Brazil. Consequently, the tournament will require long-distance traveling for teams that will be taking part. During the World Cup, Brazilian cities are also homes to other participating teams at 32 separate base camps, there is official fan fests where supporters can view the matches live.
